Programming Schedule

&NOW Residency and Scholarship Program

(January – May)
Factory Media Centre annually hosts our &NOW Production Residency & Scholarship (PR&S) program each winter. This is a valuable opportunity for artists and creators to utilize the space and resources at FMC to produce a new work, or continue a developing body of work. Selections are based on project originality, its potential for artistic growth, and the use and integration of FMC as a production location.

Technical Residency

(Ongoing)
Our Technical Residency program provides up to three successful applicant(s) in-kind access to all of FMC’s gear, studios, and editing facilities for up to six months. This opportunity is best suited to artists who have a defined vision for a project, or are working towards an exhibition.

Gallery Series

(January – November)
Factory Media Centre annually accepts proposals from media and experimental film artists and curators to exhibit their work in our gallery space. We welcome exhibition proposals from artists in all levels of their careers, artists must be members with Factory Media Centre to exhibit their work in our gallery. Outside of our annual call for proposals, we accept exhibition proposals as they arise on a case-by-case basis and pending availabilities in our programming schedule.

AGM & Annual Members’ Screening

(December)
Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is an excellent opportunity to learn about all the activities, accomplishments, funding announcements, workshops, exhibitions, and events from the past year. Following our AGM is our Annual Members’ Screening. Established in 2005, our Members Screening showcases the creative works of our community of Members, and highlights a selection of Hamilton’s diverse new media artwork.

Studio Visits

(Spring & Fall)
During the Spring and Fall months FMC board and staff hold studio visits with post-secondary students to cultivate emerging artistic practices.

Special Projects

(April – August)
Our special projects bridge the gap between knowledge production in the gallery and access to artistic resources in the community. These programs often focus on a specific target-group of participants which shifts each year. We welcome submissions of interest to collaborate and/or partner with FMC on projects.

Professional Development & Arts Education Workshops

(January – December)
Factory Media Centre hosts professional and artistic development workshops that are open to our membership base and often the general public.

Programming Policy

Factory Media Centre is committed to equity in all aspects of its operations especially our programs. We accept proposals from artists, collectives, filmmakers, community members and curators at all stages of career levels which display local and regional experimental media artwork. We encourage applications from Black and Indigenous artists, persons with disabilities, ethnic or racial minorities, immigrants and refugees, Francophones, LGBTQI+ persons, women, and persons of all socio-economic walks of life.

Jury & Selection

Factory Media Centre’s Programming Committee and members of the community select proposals through a group jurying process. Jury members must identify any conflicts of interests before taking part in the selection process. Conflicts of interest include Artists, Artwork, or Projects by family or friends, and projects which would directly benefit the juror themself. Artists who have been selected for an exhibition and/or residency may not be selected again for a minimum of three years, pending upon Jury decisions.
