Red Light / Night Life: Performance

Sunday May 5th, 2024 | 8pm
Factory Media Centre (366 Victoria Ave N. Hamilton, ON)
Free admission

Factory Media Centre is excited to present Red Light / Night Life, a live performance from our April – May 2024 &NOW Artist-in-Residence Jordan King.

The work-in-progress multi-media performance explores the life of a single character meant to represent many possible lives, addressing emergence onstage in the world of nightlife, tumultuous love affairs, ultimately facing the reality of aging and mortality. The technical elements being explored while in residency at Factory Media Centre offers viewers a chance to experience a hybrid installation/performance which incorporates projection design and motion tracking technology. The piece includes movement, exploration of different characters, and immersive set design, created in collaboration with projection designer Nathan Bruce.

Join us Sunday, May 5th at 8pm for Red Light / Night Life. This performance is free to attend and approximately 50 minutes in length. Light refreshments will be provided.

The performance will be recorded, and an edited version will be available to view on our website and gallery in late May 2024. This is a phenomenal opportunity to see this hybrid installation and projection design in its experimental phase!

About the Artist

Jordan King has been active as a multi-disciplinary artist and performer for over twenty years in Vancouver, New York, and Toronto. Her formative years were spent as a stage performer immersed in nightlife; this included experimental live performance, cabaret, burlesque, and on-screen roles for film/video projects. Recent projects have included curation of gallery exhibitions in Montreal, acting as story editor for documentary film “The Empress of Vancouver” (2022), and performing with New York City based dance-theatre-media company thefeath3rtheory (2021). She seeks to create work which is generative, intersectional, and celebratory, honouring narratives of trans individuals while sharing from a distinctly trans-feminine lens. The work being presented during this residency was first staged in Summer 2023 in both Toronto and the Edmonton Fringe Festival, as a small-scale solo performance.

About the &NOW Production Residency & Scholarship

Factory Media Centre annually hosts our &NOW Production Residency & Scholarship (PR&S) program each winter. This is a valuable opportunity for artists and creators to utilize the space and resources at FMC to produce a new work, or continue a developing body of work. Selections are based on project originality, its potential for artistic growth, and the use and integration of FMC as a production location. Click here to learn more about our &NOW Residency Program.
