Factory Media Centre is currently seeking an organized, efficient and enthusiastic individual for the position of Gallery Intern. Reporting to the Operations Coordinator, this role requires a self-directed individual who is a full or part-time student, currently enrolled in an accredited, post-secondary institution. The individual will possess strong communication and administrative skills, and ideally possess additional technologic/artistic skills to assist in the daily operations of an artist-run media art centre.
Responsibilities:
- Update FMC’s website and prepare online communications and marketing for events and activities.
- Assist with equipment rental procedures.
- Assist with the installation and de-installation of artists’ exhibitions, screenings and talks.
- Assist with office administration, including: data entry, research, filing, email and telephone correspondence.
- Attend to gallery patrons during office hours and events, engaging in meaningful discourse regarding exhibiting artists; and, assist in the documentation of exhibitions.
- Assistance with workshop preparation and instruction, considered an asset.
Qualifications:
- An educational background in art, film/video, or a related field. You must be currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution as a full or part-time student.
- Experience with artist-run centres and/or non-profit organizations is an asset.
- Customer service experience.
- Must possess excellent computer skills: research, typing, social media, Microsoft Office. Additional experience creating content using Adobe Creative Suite, as well as, experience with WordPress is an asset.
- Excellent communication, presentation, writing, editing and time management skills.
- The ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment.
- Basic experience with hand-tools for the installation of exhibitions is an asset.
- Experience with media art technologies is preferable.

Factory Media Centre (FMC) is a not-for-profit artist-driven resource centre dedicated to the production and promotion of creatively diverse forms of independent films, videos, and other streaming multimedia art forms. Our mission is to develop and support a vibrant, sustainable, creative, and diverse community of members within Hamilton and its surrounding region. In addition to our mission, we also provide access to facilities, equipment, peer resources and educational initiatives to the community. Through our programming we hope to encourage the development and appreciation of all related visual art forms through an ongoing program of screenings and events.
