About the Artist
Abedar Kamgari is an artist, curator, and arts worker based in Hamilton and Toronto. In her practice, Abedar considers contexts and conditions of displacement and diaspora. She often uses site-responsive, embodied, and relational approaches. Abedar is interested in body memory, border spaces, complicated inheritances, and the idea of distance. Her background as a first-generation immigrant with multi-ethnic, linguistic, and religious inheritance deeply informs her life and work.
Abedar received a BFA in Studio Art from McMaster University in 2016 and an Interdisciplinary MFA in Art, Media, and Design from OCAD University in 2022. Abedar has screened and exhibited in a range of institutional contexts since 2015. Highlights include exhibitions at the Gallery of Ontario (Toronto), Art Gallery of Hamilton (Hamilton), Trinity Square Video (Toronto), Western University (London), Modern Fuel (Kingston), Nuit Blanche (Toronto), and Artcite (Windsor).
